Botulinum toxin.
Wrinkle softening
treatment.
Botulinum toxin can be used to smooth wrinkles on the face. It is a virtually painless procedure with few after effects. A very fine needle is used to inject very small amounts into the areas where muscle hyperactivity has created wrinkles, eg laughter lines.
The effect is a relaxation of expression and the aim is for a natural result.
What is Botulinum toxin?
It is a bacterium that blocks the release of acetylcholine which is responsible for transmitting the electrical impulses that cause muscle contraction.
How does it work?
Wrinkles, deep frown lines, laughter lines are often due to hyperactivity (over activity)of the muscles of facial expression. When we inject Botulinum toxin into these areas we paralyse the relevant muscles temporarily, giving the face a more relaxed appearance.
How long does it last?
Initial effects visible within a couple of days, full effect after a week or two.
Treatment usually lasts up to 4 months. We offer a review appointment after 2-3 weeks at no extra charge. Re-treatment booking is advised.
